Soil Monitoring Engineering was established by Richard Earl (PhD, MSc, CEng) and Kim Earl (BA) in 1989. 

The company specialises in the supply of tensiometers and soil water samplers to:

• Commercial Growers
• Sports Turf Managers

All instruments are manufactured, assembled and tested at the premises in Bedfordshire, England.  Worldwide delivery can be arranged.  Customers include:

• British Petroleum

• Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
• ADAS
• Banks
• Soil Survey & land Research Centre
• Rothamstead Experimental Station
• Many British and European Universities.

Dr Earl is also Director of Engineering for TurfTrax Group Limited, UK and was formerly a Senior Lecturer in Sports Surface Engineering at Cranfield University, UK.
